Buying a Rottweiler Puppy
Frequently Asked Questions

How do I buy a Rottweiler puppy from you?

The first thing you need to do is to look through the website to learn about us and our Rottweilers. Then complete the client questionnaire. You will need to fill out the questionnaire completely with as much information as you can. This will help us to select the best Rottweiler puppy for your desires, abilities, experience and needs. We do not sell Rottweiler pups on a first come first serve basis nor do we just allow customers to select any Rottweiler pup they choose. We make a recommendation based on our evaluation of the pup's temperament, his/her hierarchy in the litters pecking order, the age and experience of the family members in your household and what your plans are for the Rottweiler pup (i.e. show, work, companion pet). We do our best to try and match the proper Rottweiler puppy with the most appropriate home based on the following criteria:

  1. What the client desires in both temperament and looks of their new Rottweiler pup.
  2. What is the client's past experience level with the Rottweiler breed.
  3. How old are the children living in the household.
  4. What other species and gender of  pets already reside in the home.
  5. What activities does the client have planned for their new Rottweiler puppy (show, work, breed, therapy, pet).
  6. What is the pup's place in the pecking order of the litter (alpha, beta etc.).
  7. What Rottweiler pups in the litter are within the client's price range

What is the cost of your Rottweiler puppies?

Cost varies depending on the parent's bloodlines and titles, gender, and age of the puppies. If shipping is required then it is an extra $600.

Show quality males and females are generally around $4000.
Shipping in the Continental US is $600.

At what age can I take my Rottweiler puppy home?

At 7 weeks of age we complete our evaluation of the litter and make our recommendations to those clients who have submitted their deposit and are awaiting their puppy. We come to a mutual agreement on which pup will be yours and then we schedule pick up or shipping of the pup after they are a minimum of 8 weeks of age. Occasionally if it is a litter with many pups and therefore smaller at birth then we may opt to keep them up to 10 weeks of age to insure they are strong and healthy when they leave to go to their new home.  The majority of the time all pups are ready to leave at 8 weeks of age.

I'm looking for a PET quality Rottweiler puppy from a particular litter. Can you help me?

As we do not know how many puppies will be in a particular litter, it is hard to predict when we will have a pet quality puppy available. Sometimes a pet quality puppy will be produced, but we do not know from what litter. Our goal is to breed for top quality and not to breed pets. You will need to complete the client questionnaire and send in the $500 deposit to reserve a puppy. When a pet quality puppy becomes available, we will go down the list of the people who have sent in the deposit as they have first choice.

What is the difference between PET QUALITY Rottweiler and SHOW QUALITY Rottweiler?

Pet Quality simply means that the dog has faults. These faults are generally cosmetic such as non-scissor bite, white spots on the chest or paws, top line not straight enough for showing, etc. These faults will not affect the health or temperament of the dog. A pet quality dog is not for breeding and it is required that the dog be spayed or neutered. Pet Quality pups are sold on a Limited AKC Registration. Our pet quality dogs make good companions and often their faults are not detectable to anyone but the most experienced eyes.

Show Quality means a Rottweiler puppy with no disqualifying faults at the time of sale.

At what age do I spay or neuter my dog?

We recommend that you spay at about 1 year old and females should go through one full heat cycle first.

New research from Dr. David Waters DVM, PhD, head of the Gerald P. Murphy Cancer Foundation at Purdue University has proven that dogs spayed or neutered under the age of 1 year of age have a higher risk of cancer.

Please inform your Veterinarian about this study. Dr. Waters conducts ongoing seminars for Veterinarians on the "Understanding the biology of aging" which they can attend for a minimal fee to learn all about their findings.

The Gerald P. Murphy foundation is also doing a study on any Rottweilers that have been spayed or neutered under the age of 1 year. If you are interested in volunteering for the "Cancer Prevention Trial", please email Dr. David Waters at the Center for Exceptional Longevity Study at Purdue University at the address below.
